Box tops, soup labels, mustangs

We are collect box tops again this year! Please save these and send them to school.

Also, we will collect soup labels. Please put the soup labels in a bag, envelope, or in a rubber band with a note attached (or written on) saying that the labels are for Miss Hussar's class.

Lastly, during football season, the Canton Repository and the Massillon Independent will publish "coupons" for each school in the area. Please clip out the "Tuslaw" coupon and return it to school. Tuslaw can get receive a cash prize if we return many of these coupons!

Library

Students will go to library once every 5th school day. Books are checked out for 10 days and can be renewed twice, thus allowing students to have a book for up to 30 days. Students are to bring their books every visit to the library (whether they are renewing/returning) in order for the students to have reading material for silent reading time. Each student will be required to check out at least one book/magazine from the library. The library is a great place to get books to read during the monthly reading calendar and AR books for classroom and home reading. Students will be able to take AR tests in library along with taking tests during class.

Poetry Folder

This year, our class will be reading poetry each week in our "Poetry Folder." After we read and discuss the poem in class, students will have to read the poem to someone at home and then write a paragraph in response to the poem (a prompt will be given.) It is very important that this paragraph is written neatly, with many details, and in paragraph form (indent, topic sentence, and closing sentence). Please read the paragraph that your child wrote to ensure that it was done to the best of his/her ability. The folder will be due the following day (usually Thursday!)

Book Orders

Monthly book orders will be sent home (usually on the first Friday of the month.) It is not mandatory to order books, but there are usually cheap books included in the order that will be good to have at home (for reading at home and to use for the Monthly Reading Calendar). In addition, the classroom receives free supplies/books when orders are placed! Please write a check to the book company and do not send cash to school for book orders.
I can only place a class order if the order exceeds $20. If the order (as a class) does not exceed $20, I will return your check and notify you that the order cannot be placed.

Friday Folders

Friday Folders will be an important part of third grade! Each Friday I will write a short note in your child's Friday Folder (it will be a green folder) regarding behavior, participation, and other school related events. Please read these carefully, discuss the notes with your student, and sign the folder. Please return the folder to school on Monday! All folders need to be returned to school on the next school day! In addition, all graded papers, timed tests, and AR tests will be included in the Friday Folder. Please review all papers, and correct and sign the papers (if necessary).

School Lunch Information

Continue to check the Tuslaw Middle School Website! The lunch menu is posted there for each month!

Students will again use a pin number to pay for their lunches. This helps students to keep track of their money and does not require students to use a ticket. However, the cafeteria is asking that every student bring their lunch money in an envelope. Somewhere on the envelope, the following information MUST be written:

Student’s Name (First and Last)

Pin Number

Miss Hussar

Room #802

It would be very helpful if this information is on the envelope when it comes to school.

In addition, students are required to prepay. Therefore, it is helpful for students to put some money in their account at the beginning of the year (even if students pack often). If students would rather pay at the beginning of each day, then they must have their daily lunch money in an envelope with this information written on the envelope. I will collect the envelope in the morning. Please contact me with any questions that you have about this procedure.

School Supply List

Supply List – Grade 3 – Miss Hussar

Below is the 3rd grade supply list. This list was sent home at the end of last year. A few supplies have been added to the list. These items are items specific for our class. I realize that you are just hearing about them and it would be appreciated if you sent them to school whenever possible. Keeping additional items at home (especially colored pencils, pencils, and notebook paper is helpful).

* Please label EVERYTHING with your child’s initials and only buy what is on the list as items not included on the list will be returned due to limited desk space.
